What’s not to like about a day spent on the water? It gets even better when there’s a great purpose to it, too.
On Saturday, local racers and cruisers again will have a chance to raise more than a sail in support of others in the 22nd annual Annapolis Leukemia Cup Regatta out of Eastport and Annapolis Yacht Clubs. Sailing is preceded by a Summer Gala and Auction on Friday at AYC and wraps up with a Crew Party and awards presentation at EYC following racing.
The Leukemia Cup Regatta program began in 1993 in Annapolis as a relatively small fund raising event tacked onto a CBYRA-sanctioned regatta, and raised about $35,000. Thanks largely to founding committee member Gary Jobson, who went on to become the Leukemia Cup’s National Chairman, the event has spread across the country. There are about 50 Leukemia Cup events nationwide and participating volunteers have raised more than $42 million in support of the medical research and patient support services of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
