Texan Terry Flynn's iron hold on the top of the leaderboard in Annapolis Yacht Club's 2014 J/80 North American Championship proved unshakeable after two more races on Sunday brought the 32-boat fleet's three-day series to a close. With bullets in four of the series' seven contests, Flynn and Quantum Racing teammates Jesse Fulmer, John Gluek, and Casey Lambert jumped out to an early lead after Friday's racing and held on through the next two days to win by a comfortable 13-point margin over fellow Texan Glenn Darden and his Le Tigre crew, with the rest of the fleet even farther back.
"This wasn't as easy as it looks on paper," Flynn said. "We managed to do well toward the end of each race, and that was kind of important."
Flynn and his teammates racked up scores of 1-1-2-1 on Friday, finished fourth in Saturday's single race, and scored 1-3 on Sunday, showing strength through a variety of wind and current conditions.
