The Eastport Yacht Club’s 31st annual Lights Parade almost didn’t happen.
Pete Chambliss kept an eye on the afternoon weather forecast, which called for cold temperatures and lots of rain. But the man known as the parade’s chief elf was looking for one thing.
“We can deal with the wet and we can deal with the cold,” Chambliss said. “But once you start getting ice on the decks, then you start having issues about safety.”
